Happy birthday to my little man!
Your laughing voice cheers me
Your embracing arms soothe me
Your little round belly invites me
To fill it up with vanilla ice cream.
Your busy hands challenge me.
Your giving heart heals me.
Your inventive head makes me yearn for
another story about another drawing.
Your joyful smile warms me.
Your twinkling eyes lift me.
Your dancing feet sweep me
Up in their rhythm.
A mostly daily, sometimes funny, sometimes tragic (like parenting) poem inspired by being an at-home Dad.

Hard Choices
There is that sound
The awful THWONK of a head
hitting something
hard
And then immediately following
CRYING
it hurts it hurts it hurts
and
HUGE TEARS
daddydaddydaddy
I'm here
I'm here
I'll give you a hug
There, there
That's bett-
Where are you going?
Yeah, I just got off the treadmill
sorry
Would you like some water instead?
The awful THWONK of a head
hitting something
hard
And then immediately following
CRYING
it hurts it hurts it hurts
and
HUGE TEARS
daddydaddydaddy
I'm here
I'm here
I'll give you a hug
There, there
That's bett-
Where are you going?
Yeah, I just got off the treadmill
sorry
Would you like some water instead?

Light Grey
I really like that shade of grey
It is the color of Parisian fog
It is the color of the soft underbelly of a lop-eared bunny
It is the color of campfire smoke
It should not be the color for the rug in a house with four children
